Adding Value as Standard

CEC managed services provide a great deal of hidden added value, at no additional cost:

Experience and skills of clinical coders

  • CEC clinical coders will have operated at band 6 and above within NHS organisations. Contract pricing is in keeping with lower band pay levels, 4-5.
  • The skills possessed in all acute medicine, community and mental health are significant.
  • Most coders have at least 6 years’ experience operating in the NHS.

Scale of CEC operations

  • Through its scale of operations CEC delivers savings in relation to recruitment and set up of the initial team, and any on-going growth in delivery requirements.
  • There is strength in the depth of the CEC team. The service comes with resilience built in. Planned and unplanned absence is factored into the resource levels.
  • CEC maintains a large resource pool of ACC clinical coders. At short notice, CEC can and does respond to customer requests to strengthen teams with new members. This provides certainty to customers, confident in CEC’s ability to react to requests.
  • On-going, CEC assumes the cost of recruitment and staff management. Customers benefit from this investment by CEC.

IT support services

  • At no cost to customers, CEC operates IT support services.
  • Included within service delivery is the provision of necessary hardware for use by clinical coders.
  • Clinical coders have access to technical support during weekdays and weekends.

One-hour response times to queries

  • Account management routines afford high-quality support to customers, typically we are always available; we respond to queries on average within one hour.
  • Account management is at no extra cost to customers.
  • Support is available 24/7 from the CEC team. We do not operate a customer help line. We operate a direct contact approach. In case of need, customers are able to contact the management team. We publish all email and telephone numbers to enable this.

Advisory support

  • The experience and qualifications of the CEC team adds great value to the partnership between the supplier and customer. CEC is able to interact at all levels with Trust personnel across a wide range of departments. We possess clinical, IT, IG, financial and administrative skills. We have many years’ experience in supplying NHS organisations.
  • We often find that our skill levels greatly contribute to the quality and understanding achieved during interactions on service delivery. We act in an advisory capacity, as well as service delivery. This positions CEC as a valued partner, and more than just a supplier.
  • The team possesses expertise for many specialties. We are able to advise on national standards and best practice being applied elsewhere.

On-going input on best practice

  • CEC is working with many leading NHS Foundation Trusts. We are able to build into the service delivery best practice methods gleaned across our range of customers.
  • By sharing best practice ideas, we support customers in planning to improve depth of clinical coding and to optimise income.

Out of hours working at no extra cost

  • The clinical coding environment presents many challenges. On occasions, unforeseen challenges present themselves and where necessary, the CEC team supports customers during out of hours periods.
  • CEC supports service delivery by working evenings and during the weekend. Our service tariff is fixed and covers normal and out of hours working, at no extra cost.

Additional charged-for services

CEC is able to provide audit and training services:

CCS accredited auditor services

Our experienced auditors undertake annual IG audits or assist on-going with reviews on sequencing and sampling of clinical coding. Increasingly, customers are looking at quality and depth of coding, as a means for protecting income and giving assurance on clinical interventions measurement. We can provide services at competitive rates; these are subject to individual requirements.

CCS accredited training services

Our experienced trainers can undertake refresh and specialist topic training. Often, audit work can highlight areas for focus by individual clinical coders. We are able to tailor courses to suit local need. We can provide services at competitive rates; these are subject to individual requirements.

Typically, for audit and training we agree a day-rate for the supply of services based on duration.
